In a Sunday night matchup at Lake Forest Sports Complex, Newport Beach FC and Tiburones Rojos USA played out a four-goal thriller that concluded with 2-2 scoreline.

In the 6th minute, Brandon Pelayo of Tiburones collected the ball as Newport Beach FC was caught in possession in its own half. Pelayo dribbled into the area from the left flank and calmly finished the ball to the back post as Newport’s goalkeeper came off his line.

Tiburones kept the pressure up as they struck a couple long-range shots off the crossbar after gaining possession in the middle of the field. Newport Beach was also able to create a few chances of its own with the best opportunity coming off a long ball that was controlled with a quick turn to send a streaking Alex Avila down the right sideline. Avila's strike from a tight angle was sent just wide. Tiburones entered halftime with a one goal advantage.

The hosts entered the second half with much more grit as they looked to gain its footing in the match.

Newport brought the match level after Tiburones lost possession in the middle of the field. Armando Rodriguez collected the ball just outside the 18-yard box and struck a low shot to the back post.

Alexander Cortez scored the second goal for Tiburones after a throw-in into the box bounced around but could not be cleared by Newport Beach. The ball landed right at the feet of Cortez who finished a placed ball to the bottom, far corner.

Bryant Reyes provided heroics for Newport as he brought the match level with 15 minutes left to play. Newport sent a long ball down the left flank as Reyes used his speed to collect the ball closing in on the end line. He shook his defender before lifting the ball high into the far post.

Both teams kept battling for the remainder of the match, but a deciding goal was unable to find the back of the net as the match ended 2-2.

Newport Beach FC hosts Bell Gardens FC this Sunday with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. PT at Lake Forest Sports Complex.
